ABOUT
Artist Statement:
Full of contradictions... Inherent complexities draw you in for a closer look, while intrigue is countered with abrupt response, tending to startle the unprepared. Forms and imagery evoke things found in nature that are typically symbols of freedom and lightness (wings, water, etc) yet they are bound to the built environment, unable to escape. The aesthetic is cold and sophisticated, a direct contrast to the organic forms that they animate. These hybrids, part animal, part machine, are musings on the consequences of progress; a cyborg possibility.
As an early adopter, I embrace new media in all of my work, yet my pieces reveal an ambivalence about how technology will continue to evolve. Nevertheless optimistic, my work is meant to remind viewers that, though technology has the potential to be beautiful and produce awe - what we think will free us could also hold us down.
